Kayaking Quick Start (2 Session Class) Tues & Thurs 5:30-7:30PM at Matagorda County Birding & Nature Center
This beginner’s program, known as Kayaking Quick Start, was developed by the American Canoe Association (ACA) to equip those new to paddling with the confidence to ply calm water during leisurely day outings. It is also intended to stir interest in developing the advanced skills and knowledge needed to pursue more exciting on-the- water conditions (I.e., adventure-oriented kayaking experiences).
The first basics class of the summer season is open to all individuals in modest physical condition and over the age of 12. Session I is on July 19 and Session II is on July 21. It will take place at the Birding Nature Center from 5:30 to 7:30 P.M. on each of these days. The class fee is $65 for MCBNC members and $75 for non-members. Any participant may bring their own boat, paddle and PFD, if desired.
However, members of the MCBNC will have loaner kayaks, from the fleet of the Matagorda County Kayak Coop (MCKC), available for them to use, free of charge, during this training activity, while non-members may secure this necessary equipment from MAC for a nominal rental fee of $35.
